The characterisation factor is determined by an equivalency method using PM10 as a reference.

Equivalency factor

The same equivalency factor is used as in "HCI impact on severe morbidity", i.e. 1.84 kg ‘effective’ PM10/kg HCl.

Calculation of characterisation factor

According to "PM10 impact on wood" there are 0.00991 kg wood lost per kg PM10.
This will give 1.84*0.00991 = 0.0182 kg wood per kg HCl.
