The characterisation factor is determined by the empirical method.

Category indicator value in system considered

According to WHO/FAO (World Health Organisation/Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations )there is about 2 3.5 million cases of acute poisoning from
pesticides annually. A best estimate of 3 million will be used here. The average duration of the morbidity or the severity is not reported. It is assumed here, that the average duration of severe morbidity is 0.01 year and equally for morbidity. This would imply a total indicator value of 30 000 person-years of severe morbidity per year.
