The characterisation factor is determined by an equivalency method using PM10 as a reference.

Equivalency factor

The same equivalency factor is used as in "HF impact on severe morbidity", i.e. 1.80 kg ‘effective’ PM10/kg HF.

Calculation of characterisation factor

According to "PM10 impact on crop" there are -6.46E-03 kg crop lost per kg PM10. This will give -1.80*6.46E-03 = -1.16E-02 kg crop lost per kg HF.
