The characterisation factor is determined by an equivalency method using PM10 as a reference.
The same equivalency factor is used as in "HF impact on severe morbidity", i.e. 1.80 kg ‘effective’ PM10/kg HF.
Calculation of characterisation factor
According to "PM10 impact on morbidity" there is 3.61E-06 person-years morbidity/ kg PM10. We thus obtain:
3.61E-06 *1.80 = 6.50E-06 person-years of morbidity per kg of HF.
